A Awards Season está oficialmente aberta com a revelação dos vencedores de um dos primeiros prémios da indústria (norte-americana), os Gotham Independent Film Awards 2013, que se dedicam a distinguir as produções não desenvolvidas nos grandes estúdios, ou seja, o cinema independente.

O novo filme dos irmãos Coen acabou por levar a melhor sobre o grande favorito da temporada ("12 Years a Slave", de Steve McQueen) e levou para casa o prémio máximo, de Melhor Filme. Noutros destaques, "Fruitvale Station" saiu com duas importantes vitórias, enquanto “The Act of Killing” continua a cimentar-se como o Documentário mais importante do ano.
